<h1 style="text-align: left; font-size: 48px;">How Replacing Animal Research is influencing education</h1>

Resources and training to educate in non-animal approaches

We have launched our new resources hub, sharing training and advice to support all stages of the education journey from secondary school to research scientists. We provide resources to help students and educators understand the challenges and opportunities to replace animals in science including our popular guides on mice in research, finding animal-free degree options and how to advocate for animals with science.

Influencing the national curriculum

We participated in the UK Government Curriculum and Assessment Review, including suggestions on how to update the GCSE and A-level Science Curricula to reflect modern non-animal science methods. Hopefully, bringing in non-animal approaches to the very beginning of our scientific education syllabus in the UK.

Our Head of Policy and Programmes, Amy Beale, has also joined as a STEM Ambassador with STEM Learning, talking in local secondary schools about our charity, our mission, and careers that help further non-animal science.

Training for a non-animal future

We have supported bids that helped launch two amazing Centres for Doctoral Training – located in Glasgow and London. Both of these centres offer PhDs in utilising and advancing in vitro techniques as alternatives to animal use.

We are also working on some bespoke training for Universities, students, and teachers that we are hoping to launch in the coming months. By supporting people through the transition from the use of animal ‘models’ to non-animal methods, not only are we saving animal lives, we’re also helping researchers develop their skills in human-centred approaches to research.

Mapping animal-free opportunities across the UK

Through the support of one of our amazing volunteers, we have been able to develop and launch our interactive map, sharing opportunities for collaboration across the UK and to help share replacement expertise and training and education in alternatives.
