Training School

The Training School will:

• Provide training in experimental design techniques;
• Give an introduction to statistical methods to ensure data is analysed correctly;
• Highlight legal and ethical considerations when using animals;
• Are an opportunity to evaluate procedures before putting them into practice;
• Provide a chance to meet with other researchers to discuss ideas and
  exchange expertise;
• Stimulate engagement with the 3Rs

The Training Schools are highly interactive and include lectures, group discussions, and individual exercises. The programme is structured to lead participants from simple experimental design and statistical ideas, through more complex methods and analysis to effective presentation of findings. Participants are also able to discuss their own research problems/experiences with the expert tutors.

Because responsible research requires better design

Good experimental design is one of the most effective ways to reduce and refine animal procedures. Replacing Animal Research’s annual FELASA (Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations) accredited Training School provides training in experimental design and statistics and is held in collaboration with the University of Nottingham.

Replacing Animal Research promotes the importance of reduction to researchers worldwide, particularly to new scientists. Replacing Animal Research Training Schools are relevant for all scientists at postgraduate level and above, even if it’s just to get a reminder of best practice techniques. Often basic principles of experimental design are not always fully understood. Attending a Replacing Animal Research Training School will provide you with the knowledge to ensure you are designing experiments to get the maximum information with minimal animal use.

Replacing Animal Research Training Schools have been running for more than 13 years and have a long-standing reputation, attracting international as well as local participants.

There will be a cancellation charge of 10% cost of the total ticket price up to 14.05.25 or 100% after this date. Substitute participants may be accepted.
