ATLA

Dr Susan Trigwell

I am the Managing Editor for the ATLA journal. As part of the Editorial Team, this involves dealing with submissions, arranging and overseeing peer-review, liaising with authors and our publishing partner Sage, and copyediting and proofreading accepted manuscripts.

I was awarded a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Nottingham in 1997. Before joining Replacing Animal Research, I was an academic researcher and gained valuable experience in in vitro cell culture and key molecular biological and immunological techniques. In my research, I used these techniques to investigate the mechanisms and diagnosis of human diseases such as diabetes and breast cancer. They were also crucial for gaining insight into how certain proteins work within cells.

I joined Replacing Animal Research in 2006, specifically to work on ATLA. I am committed to helping authors communicate their lab results in the clearest way possible, to help push forward the development and validation of replacement alternatives. I particularly enjoy helping authors publish their work on the Three Rs when English is not their first language, as this can be a challenge for them. It’s really rewarding to be part of an author’s publication journey.
