I’m Jessie, and I’m the Policy Officer for Replacing Animal Research.

My role is all things policy. I support our projects to create policy change, mainly in the areas of basic and applied research. This can be anything from contacting policymakers, keeping the team and supporters up to date with relevant policy matters, and representing the charity at government meetings and relevant events.

I have always had a passion for all things animals, both on a personal and academic level. I’ve been vegan since 2015, and hold a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from the University of Plymouth and an MSc in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law from the University of Glasgow. My MSc in particular sparked my interest in policy and the use of animals in science, with my research project focusing on legislation aimed to protect laboratory animals across different continents.

I originally joined the Replacing Animal Research team in 2020 as a volunteer, before starting as Policy and Projects Intern in 2021, and progressing to Policy Officer in 2022. I love that every day is different at Replacing Animal Research, and it’s incredibly rewarding knowing that I’m actively working towards a better future for animals and humans.
